1857 Wood Engraving Ruins Baalbec Ruins Site Baalbek Baalbeck Heliopolis YHW1 XALA7 The Great Exhibition of 1851This is an original 1857 monochrome in text wood engraving that depicts locals relaxing among the ruins of Baalbek (also Baalbeck). During Roman rule, the town was known as Heliopolis, or City of the Sun. It is the most preserved Roman site in Lebanon and many of the architectural ruins feature indigenous influences, so it's no wonder that it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
